Description
Trampart has its origins in America around 1870, Later it came to Europe.
We are proud to list two boxes – A chest made in 1901, so it is 123 years old! the second is smaller is highly decorative and a very charming Tramp Art jewellery box made around 1910. The box is made from hand curved pieces of wood lined together in several layers. The coloring of the wood is truly sensational. The original upholstery is still present. The key is unfortunately not.
Trampart was so called because vagrants and homeless people made it from cigar boxes.
During the First World War it also became popular as a pastime in the trenches.
Hence the name trench art
