Bastet was the goddess of fire, cats, of the house and the pregnant women. Bastet (originally: Bast, also Pasht, Ubasti and Bubastet) was a goddess of fertility in Egyptian mythology, depicted as a cat. In her oldest form she might also be displayed with a lioness head and an ankh cross. She is the goddess of joy, dance, music, feast, life and warmth.
She appeared from the 2nd Dynasty on and was considered to be a protector of the Pharaoh. Usually she has a sistrum. She may also be displayed as a mother who suckles her young.
